There is the difference between The Holy Ghost and the gift of the Holy Ghost. A person may be temporarily guided by the Holy Ghost without receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost can permamently receive by those who receive gospel ordinance for their lives like baptism if they true and faithful to their covenants forever.
