Just an okay read
I really liked the first two books to this series. I couldn't wait to read this one. This book finds former art thief, Tom Kirk in a race to save The Mona Lisa. It seems that someone is after it, and the only way to protect it is to steal it himself. Who can Krik trust? Can he trust old friends? I don't want to say to much about this book. If you go into it not expecting to much, you may like it more than I did. It was kind of a let down for me.
a good read if you are a fan of the character
not as compelling as the other books, still, a good read if you are a fan of the character.

Another one in a different series that my son and I share.
Maybe one day my husband will join us.
I expected a little more
Having read James Twining's previous two books, The Double Eagle and The Black Sun, I expected a little more from this offering. The historical mystery seems overshadowed by action sequences that are a cross between Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible and Wile E Coyote. He also introduces several shadowy underworld figures that are almost unbelievable and are certainly unrealistic.
If judging this book as a screenplay for an action movie, I would give it 3 stars. As an Dan Brown-esque historical, conspiracy theory mystery it is about 2 1/2 stars.

Interesting but falls short...
This is the first novel I have read by Twining. I found it interesting but not compelling. For the first third of the book it was difficult to keep the cast of characters in mind & I often had to look back to see who was who. It has an interesting plot with many twists. The historical references interwoven in the story made it worth the read. Lots of violence and murders.
