Early on in Season 2, you may recall me complaining about the Filianists and how hard it was to track down the
practitioners of the Filianism and Deanism religion or anyone associated with the book, “The Chapel of Our Mother God: The Scripture of the World’s First Faith.” Thanks to the miracle of social media that is sometimes horrid but also sometimes helpful, today’s guest, Jo, and another woman reached out to me when I posted a rant about my frustration. So today Jo is here to tell us all about
Filianism, what it is and isn’t, where it came from, and how people are quietly practicing this Goddess religion today.
Jo, who also goes by Jaia Filyani, is one of the small but dedicated (and ever growing!) group of people who deeply believe in Dea (their preferred term for Goddess). Jo is in the process of getting her bachelor’s degree in social work to be followed immediately by a master's program, and she has 2 minors, one in history and the other in health communication. She lives in Texas and has always been fascinated by religion, yet unable to connect with the common forms of it around her, which were mainly Protestant or Lutheran Christianity. She created her online presence to educate people who have found themselves searching for a religion that might find
Filianism is a good fit for them.
