Two first-time operators build a wellness resort in the Costa Rican jungle and reach nearly 100% occupancy in their first season, with the upcoming season almost booked solid before it starts.
How did they pull that off?
I sat down with Lee MAYJAHS and Dawn Delgado, the couple behind Mandala Ohochal, an eco-wellness resort on Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast.
We'll get into how they secured funding and built a beautiful resort as expats. We’ll also do a deep dive into their business model which focuses on wellness retreats and pre-booked events. And we talk candidly about how they keep a business partnership and a romantic relationship both running smoothly.

The first issue of Outside Magazine came out in 1977, and it was right around that time that a young Robin Thurston was looking through an issue preparing for a camping trip with his father in Colorado. Fast forward almost 50 years later, Robin is now the CEO of Outside Interactive, which owns Outside Magazine.
Robin is the living embodiment of the mission statement that fuels Outside Interactive - Get Everyone Outside. We're stoked to have Robin as our special guest in Episode 4, on Season 5, of The Glamptuary Podcast!
Robin was a competitive trail biker for years before he created the collection of wildly successful Map My Fitness apps which sold to Under Armour in 2013 for a reported 150 million dollars. Robin took the success of that sale to pave new paths for outdoor enthusiasts looking for ways to connect with nature. He founded Outside Interactive which owns over 30 notable outdoor recreation brands including Outside Magazine, Outside TV and many more.
In this episode, Robin takes us back to the camping trip with his Father and explains how he fell in love with the outdoors. He also takes us through his entrepreneurial journey and successes. We dive into AI, and how technology can be used to disconnect. And we talk about the upcoming Outside Days Festival, and what the future looks like for the Outdoor hospitality and recreation industries.

We’re going to get political in Episode 3. Kind of.
Our guest does work in politics, but I would not call him a politician in the traditional sense.
His name is Conor Hall and he is the Director of Outdoor Recreation for the State of Colorado, working in the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Conor is a native Coloradan, an avid outdoorsman, and one of the key players responsible for launching the wildly successful OUTSIDE FEST, now known as OUTSIDE DAYS.
The festival saw over 35,000 attendees last year and the speakers included Diana Nyad, Alex Honnold and David Blaine. There were over 100 exhibitors, a film festival, dozens of bands, and a lot of excitement about the outdoor hospitality and recreation industry.
We’ll talk with Conor about the birth of OUTSIDE DAYS, and the partnership between Outside Magazine and the Colorado State Government. We’ll also talk about the socio and economic impact outdoor recreation has in Colorado, as well as the Trump Administration's policies that are negatively impacting the outdoor hospitality and recreation industries.

Loyalty programs in the hospitality industry create mutually beneficial relationships between service providers and consumers.
The outdoor hospitality industry has been asking for loyalty program options, and our guest on Episode 5 of Season 4 is going to explain exactly how this can work for independent hoteliers in the outdoor hospitality industry.
I'm excited to speak with Audrey Yates, Vice President of Hotel Partnerships at Stash Hotel Rewards. Stash has been around since 2010, but only recently has it started to expand its portfolio into outdoor hospitality.
In this episode, Audrey explains how Stash’s loyalty program works, and offers keen insight as to why these types of programs are necessary now that the big hotel chains have entered the once fiercely independent outdoor hospitality industry.
Lot’s of learning to be had, so listen closely as we learn about loyalty programs in Episode 5, on Season 4, on The Glamptuary Podcast.
