  • a father images God before his children, and a good father makes being a son glorious
  • when a father perverts the image of God it damages the children, which has inevitable spiritual consequences as well
  • a perfect father doesn't guarantee perfect kids, but a faithful father will be a blessing to them

    • Realities that help earthly fathers image the Heavenly Father

    1. Anchor identity. 2 Cor 5:7. 1 John 3:1. Colossians 1:13. Secure
    2. Show compassion. Psalm 103:13. Matthew 7:11.
    3. Ensure security. John 10:27-30. Protection; physical and emotional.
    4. Discipline in love. Colossians 3:21. Without unreasonable expectations and hypocrisy. Training to faithful and effective. Proverbs 3:11-12; 13:24.
    5. Provide a moral compass. Proverbs 22:6. Words and examples (including stories).
    6. Mindful of blessings. Psalm 127:3-5. Paying (better) attention. Not to be treasured, but used up.
