The psalmists are masters at the use of metaphor.  In this psalm, contrary to popular opinion, there are two (not one) leading metaphors.  The LORD compares himself to a shepherd and... can you guess the second metaphor?  It's a powerful image that reveals the goodness and generosity of our God.
