Our primary caregivers would not have been aware of the meaning that we would have added to this simple phrase but the covert message that is conveyed through it? You don’t deserve to be yourself, you are expected to be good all the time, to not express the full range of your emotions and to not do as you please but to be compliant, to give or help out when asked, and do not say no because that’s rude and impolite…Do as you’re told, fit into the mould of being a “good girl” and don’t cause any trouble.
You'll carry this way of being into your adulthood life if you leave it unexplored and the knock-on effect? Catastrophic if you're anything like me...
