We are the wounded man on the road. Jesus is the Samaritan who, at great cost, in time, in money, in effort, in energy, stopped by the side of the road and picked us up and took care of us. Understanding this gives us the heart of compassion to do what Jesus says at the end of the passage, “Go and do likewise.”
