The Parable of the Good Samaritan is a familiar story. While the surface-level meaning of the parable is to be a good neighbor and help someone in need, the Church Fathers saw this parable as an extended metaphor for the entire Gospel. When the Church Fathers looked at this parable of the Good Samaritan, they saw symbols of sin and grace, brokenness and healing. Many Church Fathers treat the parable of the Good Samaritan allegorically with a Christological interpretation, where they identify the Good Samaritan with Jesus, the oil and wine as the sacraments, and the inn as the church. This parable becomes a picture of the entire mystery of salvation. In his homily, Fr.
