Of all people many will say why you who have lost his home due to the landlord scamming him in a number occasions and now is living in his mother's house , his church which he couldn't afford , his wife due to cancer. How can you speak about the goodness of God. But yet nothing in this world is truly ours, if we have them for a time it was only given to us for a time. We come naked to this world with not even the clothes on our back and we die taking nothing with us not even the suit we are buried in, if we have a proper burial. Which not many can afford. Well said Job when loosing everything except his wife and Paul who knew about suffering hunger and having nothing at times the following:
Job 1:20-21
Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
1 Timothy 6:7-8
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
So if you have a roof over your head thank God for his goodness, if you have a spouse thank God for his goodness, if you have kids or Grandchildren thank God for his goodness. If you have food to eat thank God for his goodness. If you have clothes to wear even if it is not name brand thank God for his goodness. For there are many people today who don't have the blessings you are enjoying right now.
In other countries like in Haiti , they are eating Cookies made of clay, butter and salt which are traditional remedy for hunger called mud cookies but while God would have you enjoying a piece of cake or steak. A passage that comes to mind a lot is the following.
Matthew 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’
When people tells me or I hear them saying God is unjust. I ask myself how can he be unjust if everything belongs to him. He is the creator and as such has every right to do as he wishes with his creation. Imagine a cup being molded by the potter and telling the potter who is the maker you are unjust because you didn't made me with a handle. But yet who are you to say such a thing. You are the creation. He could of chosen not to make you at all or make a ashtray why complain.
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.
Having so much in the United States or England or Australia has made us so ungrateful while other countries who has less are so greatfull for what little benefits compare to us they may have for that day. It is sad that we have a day of Thanksgiving to God for all he has given us. While we have other holidays that last a week or a month. Imagine Clergy Appreciation Month. How many of these Clergymen actually care for their congregations to provide for them each day what they need and they get a month. Yet God who provides for all both Good people and Evil people gets a day which is known more for the turkey than for God. Living in a Spanish home before coming to Christ, I remember them in the house not calling it Thanksgiving Day but Turkey day. And prayer was never mentioned since the thought was on the turkey rather than God and his goodness. Which the first Thanksgiving which was in June instead of November was for thanking God for his goodness and favour.
First Thanksgiving Proclamation ( June 20, 1676) which was proclaim by Edward Rawson
states ("... The council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th of this instant June, as a day of solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his goodness and favour....")
Then later on by George Washington it was to be changed to the month November. But the point of the matter was it was a day set to thank God for his goodness. For God is good even the Psalmist points that out time and time again.
David said the Lord is good in the 34th & 145th Psalm
Psalms 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Psalms 145:9 The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.
The same is said by the unknown writer of Psalms 100 & 135
Psalms 100:5
For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
Psalms 135:3
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant.
In Psalms 34:8 we are told taste and see that the Lord is good. So we can see by the things around us and we can savor as if it was food is goodness which is all around us.
He has given rain in due seasons and sunlight so our vegetables and fruit could grow.
Matthew 5:45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
Just like Christmas a day that we give and receive gifts which is barely remembered for Christ. But family and friends united. How many ungrateful hearts are there on that day being mad at each other because they wasn't given the gift they desired when the day wasn't for them but for Christ which humbled himself who being God became man.
