Disciplining children is a sensitive topic today, but God’s Word makes clear that it is a spiritual duty for parents. Biblical discipline goes beyond words and uses actions to deal with matters of the heart. God disciplines us out of love, and our discipline must do the same, not involving aggressive physical force applied out of anger, but rather appropriate discipline from a heart of loving correction. Ultimately, discipline opens the door to the gospel, providing an opportunity to highlight the nature of sin and the goodness of God’s forgiving grace.
