Jullius Barret is a lad of 14 who takes great satisfaction in the ability to "Fool People".  His biggest tale yet, that locals Adelia Williams and Thomas Everett are going to be married, is soon the talk of Valley View. Thomas is a confirmed bachelor of fifty, and Adelia Williams is forty. They are not supposed to be even well acquainted, as the Everett’s and the Williams’s have never been very friendly, although no open feud existed between them. Although neither Adelia, nor Everett, are aware of the story's origin it stirs emotions for one another they were unaware they would ever develop.
