Theological definition

Grace is the dimension of divine activity that enables God to confront human indifference and rebellion with an inexhaustible capacity to forgive and to bless.

**Your view of Grace determines how fulfilling and meaningful your Christian walk is.

Why it’s misunderstood, because it has two types of definitions in Scripture.

What it is: unmerited undeserved unearned kindness and favor of God

What it does: The divine enablement to live a life for God

What is Grace?

Culturally this word was always used as someone who is superior in standing giving a gift to one who is inferior in standing. But there was always a 3rd party as well. Someone in need, someone who had and someone who purchased.

An example from their time:

You see a single mom who is in need of groceries.

You go to the farmer who has the food

You buy it from the farmer and give it to the mom.

Someone in need

Somone who has

Someone who pays…

Faith, grace and the Law

The difference between faith and grace?

Grace is the faucet that was provided by God… you did nothing to earn that faucet… its just there in the bathroom. You don’t have to leave money behind when you wash your hands, you don’t have to feel guilty, you don’t have to work a few hours at the restaurant to pay them back… but how do you get the water out of the faucet? Faith… you don’t see any water coming out… but you simply put your hands down there and the water starts…

God I don’t deserve your grace outside of accepting Christ death for me. But in faith I will walk in it. 

OT - demands righteousness - The Law

NT - Provides righteousness

We need grace - unmerited favor in every area of our life.

Law = Performance, being graded, earn

WORKS is so tricky…

When you are in a relationship you don’t ever want to feel like you have to earn their love…

BUT - 

As soon as you get into a fight you quickly tell them all the things you have done! - works! 

Our sin nature is programmed for a works mentality. 

But we simply rest in Gods grace…

I can’t earn it, I don’t get rewarded by it

I simply ask God for more of it.
