Belief is important, but can we hang all of the law and the gospel on something so undemanding, so simple, and so easy? Jesus, when given the opportunity to narrow the commandments of God, does exactly the opposite: he focuses us on a whole-life commitment to God and neighbors one that involves "all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind."
