Koyote talks about the nature of the Great Magician as the pivotal focus that stands as the assemblage point of the human world. He is the one who is perceived as the one in control of this illusion, and at times he comes declare himself God.

The Great Magician, however, is not the real supreme consciousness. He is the equivalent of the false ego for humanity. He stands as a concentration of power over the dream, but in the end he is also part of the dream, and such his power is really an illusion.
