An anonymous letter written in 1899 claims the great moon hoax was perpetrated 65 years earlier by an unknown individual rather than the reporter thought to have done it. The letter writer argues the whole affair was an attempt to distract attention from a prominent event in the sky they didn’t want the world to notice and implies there have been other similar interferences throughout history.
