This message looks at the most important personal attribute of all and does it by contrasting what impresses us with what impresses God.
In a conversation once a person said, “I’m a good person, I recycle”. As the conversation continued it became clear that they were of the opinion that this one act was enough to qualify them as a good person. I’m sure that we could come up with a much longer list for ourselves.
One of the most famous lists was published in 1969 by Norman Anderson, in which he listed 555 personal qualities, some good and some bad. The interesting thing is the one that God says is the most important is missing from that list.
Scripture: 1 Cor. 8:1-3, 1 Cor. 13:1-8
Salient Points: What impresses you, Cryogenics, Dry Ice, Those who can do what you can’t, Music, Cooking, Organize, Invent, Draw, Paint, Sculpt, Multilingual, Predict the future, Children, Teenagers, Opinionated, Overconfident, A strange conjunction, Acting on what you learn, Difficult to add humility, Attributes without charity, Back to the first commandment, The privilege of existing.
