During the 1920s, the term poltergeist became popularized to describe the variety of hauntings in which spirits could actually make loud noises and actually move physical objects. In 1938, a Hungarian paranormal researcher named Nandor Fodor investigated the poltergeist haunting of a seemingly average housewife named Alma Fielding. Fodor came away from the experience believing he had solved the mystery of what was really behind poltergeists.
