Today on this episode we are talking about mental illness within nurses, the rhythmic nature of music and its’ healing effects on the mind, body and spirit of both patients and healthcare providers. It is without a doubt we are in an optimal state of growth opportunities to extend well beyond our limitations as nurses. MusiCure is an evidence based intervention that can be used by nurses and for their patients that can reset one’s natural rhythmic nature. The ebbs and flows of the dynamic issues impacting healthcare including nursing shortages, nurse burnout, compassion fatigue, stress, unhealthy work environments, bullying, nurse disengagement, staffing issues, boredom, uncertain career trajectories, nurse hopelessness, lack of self-efficacy, nurse mental illness, suicide have caused us to get out of rhythm of being our best selves and most notably the best nurse we can possibly be. Stress, anxiety and depression in nursing are in heightened states in the healthcare system and stifle our commitments, our relationships, our hope and joy. These issues imply that now more than ever being true to ourselves as, having faith within ourselves, having a commitment to building purposeful relationships, having faith in our purpose and being in tune with the here and now. Discovering our true sense of purpose, our hidden gifts and talents and building our faith muscles often comes in times of adversity, pain, suffering, disappointments and failure. Being present in the moment, being in-tune with ourselves and others, is the cornerstone of embracing rhythmic or rhythmatic living in urban terms.

What does rhythmic/rhythmatic living mean? Whatever is happening in your life right now, there is an accompanying rhythm that resembles music and melody. The way you breathe; the rhythm at which your heart beats. Life follows a natural rhythm; a divine order. Seasons have rhythms! The rise and set of the sun has a rhythm! Night and day has a rhythm! the circadian rhythm, our sleep wake cycle, has a natural rhythm! Rhythmic living means being in alignment with your destiny, your purpose and your current season.
