In this Faith Talk I reflect on the power of the funeral ritual (both religious and secular), by sharing my recent experiences. I believe there is great power in the simple act of gathering - to support one another, hold one
another, share stories, laugh, and cry together. Catholics will remember that burying the dead is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy, which doesn’t mean to literally dig the grave. It means being present and taking part in the ritual. It means joining in the grief and loss of others. It means holding others in their time of need. It is precisely
through these loving actions that healing takes place!
