Jesus also teaches in Matthew 15:17–20 that the heart is the source of evil thoughts and behaviors such as murder, adultery, and slander. The core message is this: what you allow into your heart shapes your character. If you desire and value impure things, the outcome will be destructive behaviors and a damaged character. Guarding and purifying your heart is essential because it ultimately determines the direction of your life.
