Listen as our special guest Shawn Struckmeier, Executive Pastor of Worship at Abundant Life, takes us through his thoughts on what worship is, and how we can have a stronger heart of worship.
Shawn defines worship as the adoration of God for all He is and all He has done. When we hear the term “worship” it’s typical to picture the singers on stage leading the congregation, but truly we can worship God in our day to day lives, honoring our parents and spouses, loving our neighbors, helping a friend, etc. We worship our savior by living in a right manner before the people we interact with on a daily basis.
Jesus tells us in the Bible to “worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.” Why is this so hard sometimes? We can get caught up in worshipping other things, other people, even ourselves because these things are so tangible to us. We can see with our own eyes the rock star on stage and get caught up in the passion of the moment, but walk away with no life change. Worshiping the God who has loved us beyond comprehension, who is the only one worthy of worship, though it may be harder to align our hearts at times because our eyes can’t see Him yet, He is the One who offers true life change and hope.
It is key to remember God’s faithfulness throughout your life, this will lead you to a deeper and more frequent posture of worship, and you will end up seeing Him in everything throughout each day!
As a worship leader, Shawn says it’s so important to get out of the way and let God use him. When you obey this call, to use your gifts for God and not for your own glory, this is when you’ll see Gods beauty shine through, and you’ll get to be a part of His grand story, touching other people’s lives and seeing incredible stories unfold.
