I read this amazing book last year called https://amzn.to/2Yd0EhY (The Hidden Life of Trees) by Peter Wohlleben about how trees that are connected to each other can help and protect each other through their connections, and how a single tree off by itself doesn't have the same protections.

There are so many hidden things happening in people, too. We can have a tiny effect on a lot of people, and those effects can build and build in a domino effect. The very small kindnesses we do for each other -- a smile, a nod, opening a door -- can make the world a better place. The prayers we say for each other -- friend or stranger -- can have unknown positive effects. Just because we don't know if our efforts will bear fruit doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
