What happens when the search for yourself leads you somewhere unexpected—and perhaps a little mysterious?
In Episode 4 of The Hidden Thread, host Nitai Mitchell welcomes Kim Legler for a story of young love, independence, self-discovery, and an unforgettable encounter with an abandoned house hidden in the Northern California woods.
At just 18, Kim found herself questioning who she was outside of a serious relationship. Longing to discover her own identity, she left behind the familiarity of her life in San Diego and set out on a journey of independence.
But during a visit with a friend in the small mountain town of Quincy, California, an ordinary afternoon of exploring took an unusual turn.
Deep in the woods, the two young women discovered a dilapidated house surrounded by police caution tape. Inside were objects that seemed strangely untouched by time: an antique black iron kettle and three pristine curtains hanging amid the decay. The discoveries were as intriguing as they were unsettling.
What was this place? And why did these peculiar objects seem so out of place?
Kim reflects on the mystery of that afternoon and the larger journey that shaped the woman she would become.
A conversation about curiosity, identity, the courage to follow an unfamiliar path, and the strange experiences that remain with us long after they’ve passed.

What happens when a place you know by heart suddenly becomes unfamiliar?
In this special story episode of The Hidden Thread, Nitai Mitchell shares a childhood experience that has stayed with her since childhood.
What began as an ordinary afternoon with her sister Theresa—following a familiar trail through Osborne Park in Sandusky, Ohio—slowly became something neither of them could explain.
The trail seemed to change. The light shifted. The woods grew unfamiliar. Then they heard the voices of children calling to them from somewhere nearby. But when they went looking for the children, no one was there.
The Trail Out of Time is a story about childhood, memory, and the strange boundary between the familiar and the unknown. It asks what happens when the landscape we think we know suddenly stops behaving as we expect—and what it means when someone else remembers it too.
Was it simply a childhood adventure, transformed by heightened imaginations? Or did two little girls briefly wander into something they still don’t have words for?
Listen, and decide for yourself.

What happens when the life you’re meant to live arrives in a way you never expected?
Artist Jennifer Heerey grew up in a world shaped by science and practicality, surrounded by a family whose paths seemed clearly defined. Becoming an artist wasn’t the obvious direction for her life—until an experience awakened something within her and set her on an entirely different course.
In this episode of The Hidden Thread, Jennifer joins Nitai Mitchell to share the story of the awakening that unexpectedly led her to begin painting. With no formal artistic background, she followed this newfound creative calling into the world of abstract art, eventually developing a career as a self-taught artist. Years later, her path would lead her into formal training in classical realism, adding a new dimension to the artistic language she had first discovered through intuition.
Jennifer reflects on family expectations, friendship, intuition, and the experiences that quietly guided her toward a life she could not have anticipated. She also shares how her art has evolved to bring together two seemingly different worlds—the visionary and the classical, the unseen and the observed.
At its heart, this is a conversation about becoming: how we recognize the threads that have been guiding us, how creativity can ask us to step beyond the life we imagined for ourselves, and what can happen when we choose to follow.
Sometimes the path doesn’t reveal itself all at once. Sometimes it begins with an awakening.

In this debut episode of The Hidden Thread, I sit down with artist, healer, and tarot creator Kelsey Crawford for a conversation about ancestry, intuition, and the mysterious ways those who came before us may continue to reach into our lives.
Kelsey shares the experiences that shaped her relationship with the unseen—from early encounters with loss and visitation to her exploration of ancestral healing and the idea of the “well ancestors”: those within our lineage who may offer wisdom, protection, and guidance.
At the heart of our conversation is an extraordinary story. While working with an ancestral tarot practice, Kelsey chose to reach out to her great-grandmother, Ida Mae, who had died at the same age Kelsey was at the time of the reading. What unfolded through the cards eventually led to a profound encounter involving Kelsey’s beloved grandmother, Dolly, shortly before her passing.
We talk about grief, synchronicity, creativity, and what it means to remain open to experiences we may not be able to explain—and how Kelsey’s connection with her ancestors ultimately became woven into the creation of her own tarot deck.
A conversation about the threads that run through generations, the mysteries we inherit, and the possibility that love may find ways to reach us across time.

What if the moments we call coincidence are something more?
The Hidden Thread is a podcast about the mysterious experiences that interrupt ordinary life and leave us…
Hosted by Nitai Mitchell, each episode begins with a story—a synchronicity too uncanny to dismiss, an intuitive knowing that proved impossible to explain, an encounter with Spirit, a message from someone who has died, or an experience that changed the course of a life.
Through intimate, thoughtful conversations, The Hidden Thread explores not only what happened, but what happened afterward. How do these experiences change what we believe? How do we make sense of something we cannot prove? And what happens when we begin paying attention to the patterns, symbols, and strange coincidences woven through our lives?
This is a space for curiosity rather than certainty—for extraordinary stories, honest questions, and the possibility that the world may be far more mysterious than we imagine.
Every story begins with a thread. Follow it, and you never know where it might lead.
