In this episode, we talk about the story of how the Himalayan task of taking accurate measurements of India across its length and breadth was conducted by the Survey of India. The project, which was of great scientific importance in its times, attempted to study the shape of the earth and made it possible to accurately calculate the heights of the Himalayan giants.

This has disastrous consequences on the lives of ordinary Indians. Take the example of primary education—if we maintain the status quo, by 2047, we will have another 20 crore children that will finish primary school without basic literacy. But the big question is how to increase state capacity? How to tweak the black box of government bureaucracy to make it work better?
