Synap2it Toolbox!

The History of Building Successful Students

Listen Later

Welcome to the Synap2it Toolbox, we’re so glad you found us. We are here to provide families like you with tools to give your students an edge on their learning, because when students connect to learning, everyone wins.

Today we are talking about the History of Building Successful Students!

The foundation of Synap2it’s program is Dr. Mary Meeker and Dr. Robert Meeker’s Structure of Intellect (SOI) model and instruments. Those are founded on the work of Dr. J.P. Guilford who earned his PhD at Cornell University.

In military research, Dr. Guilford first proved that the human intellect is a structure of multiple intelligences, each of which could be assessed independently from the others (Guilford, 1956).

Dr. Guilford’s doctoral student, Dr. Mary Meeker (Ed. D., University of Southern California) r efined his “structure of intellect” measure and applied it directly to K-12 learning by developing instructional materials to strengthen specific areas of cognitive or perceptual weakness (M. Meeker, 1969).

In her model, intelligences, like physical abilities, can be exercised and developed through cognitive and perceptual exercises. Meeker asserts: “Teaching the ability to learn should be considered equally as important a goal as is a mastery of prescribed content.”

Once students develop these skills, teachers can then approach the essential skills of education confident in their students abilities to learn challenging material. Using SOI, Synap2it provides skill-development activities to improve the student’s cognitive abilities across content areas.

These learning skills will become
the basis of lifelong tools for mastering any learning task.

Thank you so much for joining us today. We are here to provide you with tools to give your students an edge on learning. You are not alone in searching for additional resources to provide for your students.

Learners of any age can benefit from our brain based learning approach that gets to the root of learning challenges. Our ability to strengthen and develop learning abilities is what makes us stand out. Using our comprehensive brain based learning programs we help students recognize their full potential for learning. Everybody has strengths. We use the strengths to build the weaknesses.
