Twenty years ago, Burnley discovered kayak fishing. Since then, he’s paddled after the biggest fish in the wildest destinations and told the tales in his book The Complete Kayak Angler and hundreds of stories, photos and videos as editor of Kayak Angler Magazine. Stubbornly old school, Burnley fishes out of an Ocean Kayak Trident 13 for inshore and nearshore species including speckled trout, striped bass, cobia, king mackerel and redfish. His favorite target is big red drum. Burnley searches for schools of big red fish with a two-ounce jig or seven-inch swimbait. His biggest challenge is getting away from the crowds and discovering new places to fish. When he’s not writing, shooting photos and editing, you'll still find Ric Burnley sunburnt, windblown and up to his waist in the brine.
