The Hocicona Hour

Welcome back to the Hocicona hour. For this week I have three segments. I give some context to my interview with Mike Martinez. He’s a retired stunt double who is a wealth of knowledge regarding all things stunts. It’s quite an interesting story how the interview even came to be. Next I go into a little bit about my latest episodes recapping my interview with Sarah de Gaudemar, stop motion animator, and Drago Nesa, aerialist acrobat. Finally I wrap up by giving an update on my creative small business, Pico Pixie. Thanks for watching and let me know who you think I should interview next!

In this episode of the Hocicona Hour we explore the marvelous and vast career of extreme aerilist acrobatist, Drago Nesa. The episode starts with intimate discussion about how they began as a natural born gymnast then through their post-college years, when they first fell in love with performance. Since then they have explored a myriad of aerial acts some of which few performers have dared to explore. Their career has taken them to some of the country's largest stages, from performing on Coachella’s main stage to extraordinary events like the Vampire Ball. Drago has transformed their love of movement and mind-body connection into a career that spans performance, production, and entrepreneurship. And you don’t have to take my word for it—catch Drago live at their seasonal variety show,. In this episode, I had the privilege of interviewing stunt legend Mike Martinez. We dive deep into his career, from how he got his start performing small stunts as a cowboy in a stunt show at an amusement park called Frontier Village to doubling the clowns in the cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space—and so much more.

Mike is a Bay Area native, and many of the films he either doubled for or helped coordinate were shot throughout the Bay Area.

It was truly such a blessing to learn from and hear stories from someone who has made such an impact in the film and TV world. Oh, and did I mention his favorite stunt to perform is being lit on fire? Learn about all this and more in this episode of the Hocicona Hour.

A big thank-you to Andrew Neis at Action Arts in Richmond, California, for letting me use his space to record. Action Arts is a professional gym designed for parkour, gymnastics, and tricking classes. Keep an eye out for my upcoming interview with Andrew, where we’ll dive deeper into his career and all the work he does at Action Arts.

In this episode of the Hocicona Hour, I sit down with stop motion artist Sarah de Gaudemar for a full look at her creative career, from how she first got started on Celebrity Deathmatch to her first feature film. Coraline.

In our coversation, she walks me through the realities of building a career in animation, what it take to keep going in such a detailed and demanding art form, and what she hope comes next. This episode is a behind-the-scenes look at a career most people never get to see up close: one built through a precision and a deep love for detail.

Money, madness, and the drive for financial abundance. In this enthralling episode I dive deep and dissect each one of my income streams. With each given a carefully rank, story and background.
