An author that gets it because he lived it! Realistic preview of what it is like to launch a high growth startup.

Bobby Martin is the real deal. He has lived the life of an entrepreneur and angel investor. As a result, his writing is high on practicality/realism and low on theory (and in this case that is a great thing). In addition, his writing is fluid, he is a great storyteller which allows him to bring his concepts to life through anecdote. He doesn't stop there though, he actually went out and interviewed over 100 companies in order to gather data to test his assumptions. This was what really put this book over the top for me. Not only has he put out a product that is easy to read and relate to, he has inserted some rigor into his lessons by drawing on some data beyond his own personal experience. I highly recommend this book for anyone new to the process of building or getting involved with a high growth startup.

Bobby does a good job of laying out why hockey players lose a few teeth along the way to the big leagues. As most entrepreneurs learn, there is no single path to accelerating growth in your business. The book does a nice job of concisely providing examples of multiple paths entrepreneurs have had to take to figure out what works best for their business. Great book for investors and board/advisors to growth companies. Would love to see a sequel focused on old-line businesses and see what paths they have taken to their success.
