The Hogue Report: Strengthening Canada’s Response to Foreign Interference

Listen Later

In this Expert Series episode, we meet with Wesley Wark and Richard Fadden to discuss the findings of Justice Marie-Josée Hogue's report on foreign interference in Canadian elections, which found no evidence of traitors in Parliament but highlighted the threat of disinformation.

The report recommended 51 measures to enhance government response, including improving intelligence handling and protecting diaspora communities. Richard Fadden and Wesley Wark emphasize the need for robust mechanisms to detect and counter foreign interference, noting Canada's slow response and the evolving nature of threats. They also stress the importance of parliamentary involvement and the need for legislative changes, particularly to the Canada Elections Act, to better address foreign interference.
