Holy = Have a spiritually pure quality. “Being spiritually pure.” Having no faults. When will we be holy?
1. I prepare myself to meet Jesus face to face. (vss.13-14).
A. I have a hope of being with Jesus at his coming. I want to be prepared to meet him.
B. I remain alert, knowing that work of the enemy to influence me to fail. He’s trying to get me to fail. – he tempts me. – He wants me to make self-centered choices. (14).
C. I remain sober. I don’t allow things to cloud my judgment. I think of what is pure. (Philippians 4:8).
2. I want to be known as an obedient child. (14).
A. I am not to conform to the wrong desires. They are evil desires. They are desires to protect, provide for and advance myself.
B. I am to live te wise life and not the ignorant life. (14). The ignorant don’t know better. We do know what is better and need to remember the life that is better.
3. I am to live as a foreigner. (17).
A. I need to remember that this world is not my homeland. I am a citizen of Heaven. Heaven is a place of holiness.
B. I came from a place where life has meaning. (18). It is to show God’s love. Those who are from this world live an empty life. Those who are empty are constantly trying to fill their lives. They are filling it with things that never give us our fill. They fill it with things like silver and gold. They don’t give us value.
C. My inheritance comes from a perfect family member (19-21). – he is without blemish or defect. – He loves us sacrificially. (20) he did what he did for our sake. – He is the proof of God’s power to give us life. (21) God raised him from the dead to provide a way for us to live with God in Heaven. Jesus is our passport.
D. I choose to become a citizen. (22) We have accepted what Jesus has done for us. Because we believe it is true and have become pure (forgiven) allowing me to be a part of the family.
4. I am to represent my homeland well. (22)
A. I have a sincere love for others. I love people, not for what they cand do for me, but what I can do for them.
B. I show my love to others. It is the evidence that I love them deeply from the heart. I love others sacrificially like Jesus showed his love for me.
C. I share the word fo love to others to keep them from perishing. (23-25)
