In the Book of John, Jesus has more to say about the Holy Spirit than in any other Gospel. In His final time of teaching prior to His arrest and crucifixion, Jesus leaves His disciples with the promise of a coming paraclete: an “advocate” or “counselor.” Either rendering carries the meaning of “one who comes alongside.” In spite of many controversies pertaining to the Spirit, we dare not ignore the tremendous gift we’ve been given.
