Except you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, you remain a natural man, who cannot see or receive help from the Holy Spirit because His guidance will look foolish. As long as the Holy Spirit is your senior partner, you can't be alone in the dark, stranded and helpless in your journey in life.
