Amid contests of strength and dance, the king gently entreates the stranger to reveal his name and tale, that the Phaeacian ships might bear him safely home through the unseen guidance of their enchanted vessels.

In which the valiant Ulysses, enshrouded by the favour of Minerva, enters the splendid city of the Phaeacians and humbly seeks aid at the court of King Alcinous and Queen Arete, where his weary tale and noble bearing earn him a gracious welcome. Thus honored and provided for, he finds respite and the promise of help to see him safely homeward, amid the wonders and hospitality of that sea-kissed realm.

In which the goddess Minerva guides the forlorn Ulysses to the noble Phaeacian princess Nausicaa, whose kindness and grace offer a hopeful path from his weariness and despair. Together they embark upon a journey towards the city of Scheria, where friendship and sanctuary may yet be found.

In which the gods decree that Ulysses must leave the island of the nymph Calypso, who begrudgingly aids him in building a raft and provisions for his perilous voyage to the land of the Phaeacians. Amidst fierce storms raised by Neptune and the tender intervention of the sea-goddess Ino, Ulysses struggles through treacherous seas to reach a wild, rocky shore where Minerva grants him restful sleep in the shelter of intertwining olive trees.
