The Honeymoon Sweet

Listen Later

These memories are funny, frozen in honey, sleeping the whole winter long
When the Spring takes a hold & starts kissing the cold, the honey starts glowing & thaws
Then the breeze starts to carry the sound of canaries, & a sweet scent that's achingly strong.
The honey once frozen is now liquid gold, & it floats up & coats the full moon.
I am transported back to lying in the grass with you before we said "so long", so long ago.
Oddly enough, the first smell of a skunk blows the dust off the memory trunk.
If I can catch the latch before it closes, these old water-color paintings of us are exposed, & the lavender light drips off the roses for a while.
I'm getting into bed, but I'm already dressed. The plans are all in place to get no rest.
When it's finally quiet I start to stir, tip-toeing silently down the stairs.
Quietly slide the glass door behind me, into the midnight wonder,
open wide.
There's a nervous little girl waiting in her room
for a nervous little boy in the midnight blue
Gliding through the night, guided by moonlight
Sliding through the shadows as fast as I could
from the Willow Grove to the Willow Wood
Gliding through the night, guided by moonlight
Exhilarating, anticipating your silhouette at the door
Sweet parade of 4 feet tip-toeing up to the 2nd floor
Sweet vibration of hidden whispers behind the bedroom door
Sweet sensation, just lying beside you, on your bedroom floor.
Heightening the danger, heightening the risk
Heightening the senses tangled in a kiss
Remembering the caution that we threw to the wind is only
Heightening the pedestal where the memories live
Tangled up with you, tangled childhood,
tangled in the trees over Tanglewood.
Heartbeat skipping, teenage lips meet
Both of our eyelids slowly eclipsing
Into the darkness, into the mist, into my memories, into the bliss
These are the moments that I still wish
I could recapture & I could relive
Inside the pauses, of a song that goes like this..
Two kids under the moon, under a spell until too soon..
& we can here the first sounds of birds in the dark
Two kids in Michigan, smiling at dawn
Till their next secret meeting, they're smiling & yawning
Glowing exhausted, floating across this little town
Two kids in Michigan, covered in summer
Daydreaming the kiss again, smothered in each other
& glowing exhausted, floating a foot off the ground
I'm just waiting for the sun to go down
Cause it's revived by the summer moonrise
I travel back to the lavender light
It's kinda funny what the honey holds tight
We're both waiting for the sun to go down
It comes alive with the summer moonrise
I travel back into the lavender light
Isn't it funny what the honey holds inside?
I remember you under the summer moonlight
I remember you glowing in the lavender light
In my memory bank there's a secret deposit,
Buried in your backyard & hidden in your closet.
Priceless nostalgia is the key to withdraw it
on the nights in the summer, when the honey is thawed,
& it's perfectly still..
I love you for this, & I always will.
