The House You Build
Pastor Michael Dascoli

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me ON THAT DAY, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on THE ROCK. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on THE ROCK. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at His teaching, 29 because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Matthew 7:21-29
1: Both built a house
V21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
V 24: “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on THE ROCK.”
V 26: “Everyone who hears these words of mine & does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.”
Jesus is THE SOLID ROCK
Question: What kind of foundation are you building on?
“…each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is JESUS CHRIST. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because THE DAY will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss…”
1Corinthians 3:10a-15b
2: Both houses faced a storm
The storm-proof foundation: Jesus and His teaching
3: Both realize storms offer proof
“The Day.” (Matthew 7:22, 1Corinthians 3: 13): The Day of Christ
“The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.”
John 6:29
Your foundation defined: it’s that which you put your trust in
