The HR Expert With Sharon Swift

Listen Later

This week's guest is Sharon Swift of The HR Experts. Sharon has spent most of her working career in the area of Human Resources but has not always been in business for herself. Join Tracy and Sharon as they share some brilliant HR tips for you to use as well as discovering more about Sharon’s life and career.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Like many females a corporate career can often be interrupted when the life desire of raising a family becomes a reality, as was the case for Sharon.
  • Having paused her career to raise her beautiful daughters, when the time came for them to both be in school, Sharon wanted to go back into work in such a way that she could still follow her heart and be with her family especially when the children were off school.
  • The solution, create your own business doing what you know and love so that Sharon could have a flexible work life balance, especially as a parent... and so Sharon's 3rd child "The HR Experts" was born and grown 16 years on into a flourishing business that is going from strength to strength.
  • One of Sharon’s proudest moments as part of The HR Experts was when they worked with a business and grew with them. They grew to the point where the HR expert who was working with them ended up spending 95% of her time with that client, because Sharon always puts the client first she proposed that the client took on that expert full time.
  • You will always build up a far better client base if you build connections with people first. Networking can be so much more impactful than advertising your services.
  • A great induction is so important when you have a new starter. Having a really detailed plan for inducting new employees will stop them from being put off and will make sure they know what’s coming up and what is expected of them in the coming days and weeks.
  • One key piece of advice from Sharon, keep detailed notes. You’ll always have these to look back on and refer to.
