In the late summer of 2018, Luna found herself at Saint Jude's in the town of Emmaville, New York, after a funeral. She stayed behind to light a candle for a woman she barely knew—a woman who had left behind a hand-annotated hymnal in the family pew. The margins were filled with small drawings: a hand, a keyhole, a door. And a single phrase repeated every few pages, in the same careful cursive: 'The door is open. I am still inside.' Luna tries to understand what the woman was trying to say, and why the drawings seem to shift when she isn't looking directly at them. Quiet, intimate horror about what we leave behind in the margins of our lives. Told in Luna's hushed, late-night voice.
