Publisher's Summary:
In this life-transforming book, Larry Ackerman will introduce you to the person you were meant to be - and already are. The secret to uncovering your purpose, he explains, is built into you in the form of a code: the identity code. Much like your genetic code, your identity code provides a complete map of how you were designed to live. As you are guided through eight essential questions, you will discover the unique characteristics that define your potential for creating value in the world, for making a contribution that springs naturally from the core of your being and touches the lives of others. From this foundation you'll make truly meaningful decisions about what work is right for you, how to build and maintain relationships that matter, and even what interests and hobbies make sense for you. This is the classic quest for self-discovery made practical.

Find your self - find your mission.
Larry Ackerman's book is essential reading. In a time where we move so fast and are constantly engaged with technology Larry points us back to thing that does not change. Who we are. In this manual of self identity he teaches us the skill of finding out our inner gifts and strengths. His work is arguably gives us one of the finest tools of self growth since voice dialogue came along in the 1960's.
I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get clear about their mission in life and how to live it.
Just another self help book
I was quite disappointed with this book, it's like any other "self help" book out there. Actually made me feel pretty terrible cause I still couldn't figure things out OY! Maybe we all make it too difficult, we should accept that we are who we are and learn to love that very person without trying to wrestle with ourselves constantly.
STUPENDOUS! For thoughtful people of all ages.
This is not just a book to read. DO THE EXERCISES! I have never been so powerfully drawn to do the work in any other book. THEY ARE UNIQUE. The cascade of ah-ha!s lead to definitive, doable, exciting, bliss-following action.
I am not some light-weight seeker but a young, successful retiree who's experimented and dabbled for years in solutions to existential issues. At core though, I am a guy who wants to DO something with all his heart and draw upon my real strengths. You know, "follow my bliss." This book helped me finally pin down exactly what my bliss is.
I would further recommend getting the book either new or 'clean' used. You will want to make notes and underline in your copy.
If you're ready for some honest, patient introspection that results in a plan, this is the book for you.
Just what Larry said it would be
Had the opportunity to attend the AARP Convention and Larry was a speaker in which he spoke on the subjects that are in his book. It does follow what he talked about so I knew pretty much what was in the book.
