I had the opportunity kick it with Illustrator Storyteller Marcus Williams on his What If King Killmonger never lost and reached America's soil in our current environment. One extremist to replace another, but the new extreme would ensure the eradication of all black murder, inequality, suppression and overall crimes from the hands of racist individuals throughout the country (and world) So would it be worth it to not live in fear for just being the color you are born with? If Killmonger kept his word, what would that new world be like to live in?
So Marcus recently had a conversation with his kids about their understanding of the protests happening around the world, and the definition of an "extremist". Throughout the conversation, they talked about those willing to go far to get their message across to others, and how some of those actions could cross over into the realm of the extreme.
He mentioned to them how here in America, black people have been victims of hate groups and individuals that have shown how extreme they are willing to go to convey their message of terror and hatred against them. How Hitler was such an extremist that was willing to murder millions in his quest to force his beliefs on others.
It dawned on on him to pose a fictional, hypothetical scenario to them to challenge their understanding. In the film Black Panther, the character Killmonger was willing to topple entire governments to wrestle back power from those who would continue to suppressed black and brown people the world over in order to see a paradigm shift in power and quality of life. An ideal he was willing to kill for. Being an extremist himself, what if in an alternate timeline, Killmonger was able to see his plan through? Being King of the most advanced society on Earth, what if he succeeded in rebooting the governments worldwide?
