There are 2 different options when it comes to cord blood, collect or discard. 

If you choose to collect cord blood then there is another decision, do you donate to a public bank or keep it for your family through a private banking agency.

Couple of things to watch out for when you think about cord blood banking.  There can be false claims as to what stems cells and cord blood are currently capable of treating. Misleading patients to bank cord blood for future use of treatment that is either being researched or hypothecated is wrong and illegal. 

A recent study done at the University of Colorado Cancer Center is showing some pretty good response when it comes to cancer patients needing bone marrow transplants.
