The Importance of Growing

Listen Later

Ephesians 4:11-16

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Many people today are suffering from a “connection” deficiency!

1. God designed you to grow.

Ephesians 4:14-15

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

1 Peter 2:2

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

God has something he wants to give you, but it will spoil if YOU stay unplugged!

2 Peter 3:18

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2. Spiritual growth happens best in small groups.

A. Groups foster genuine community

Acts 2:46-47

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

B. Groups encourage spiritual growth

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

C. Groups provide personalized care and support

Galatians 6:2

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

1. God designed you to grow (with Him and others).

2. Spiritual growth happens best in small groups.

Why? Groups foster genuine community, encourage spiritual growth and provide personalized care and support.
