When I think of Philippine Cinema, there are two particular movies that come to mind: There’s of course General Luna, which dramatically depicts our transition from Spanish to American rule and the beginning of the Philippine-American War. Then there's Goyo, its underrated sequel that continues the story beautifully highlighting a key moment in the war, the battle of Tirad Pass.
Both of these films recreated Old Manila like never before and were the first films that made me feel truly immersed in our history. They set a standard for modern Filipino films and there were many great original Pinoy films that have followed since their releases.
Today on the Individual Collective, we have the brain behind these two masterpieces and the co-founder of TBA Studios, mister Ed Rocha
In today's episode, we talk about his early years in the 70’s a young actor during martial law, his screenwriting process for historical fiction, his opinion on how the current state of the Filipino film industry could be improved, and so much more!
