ABOUT KATIE CRAWFORD & JOANN PRICE:

Katie Crawford has been passionate about supporting missionaries and pastoral care for years. She had a vision when she was 19 on a mission trip about a place where people focused on doing God's Kingdom work could come for refreshment. Sound familiar? Friends with the Prices for over 20 years, in fact they first met at a retreat for a youth group at the former Son Lodge which is now Sanctuary Inn. Katie used to dream with the Prices around her fire pit about a place where missionaries could come to be refreshed and restored to ministry. She started praying for the Lord to bring the funds and property to make this ministry happen. Katie has a B.S. from Multnomah Bible College in Bible and Theology with a minor in Women's Ministries. Katie has worked at Nike for 25 years. She is currently a Global Process Director. She loves working with international teams and visiting countries and cultures beyond the US.

Steven and Joann Price have been in ministry for many years including time overseas and in local church ministry. For ten years they directed the residential ministry of the WorldView Center in Portland before starting up Sanctuary Inn in 2016.

Ruth helps us understand the importance of caring for leaders serving globally.

ABOUT RUTH:

Ruth’s life goal is to know Christ and make Him known. She grew up in Nigeria. Her parents were involved in cross-cultural ministry in Nigeria. By grade 8, she knew with certainty that she, too, would be involved in cross-cultural work in some way. At the end of grade 10, having tired of boarding school, she asked her parents if she could live with her Grandparents in Canada. They welcomed her in and helped her adjust to life in Canada. At the age of 27 her parents were killed in a motor vehicle accident in Canada. This loss greatly affected her life and gave her an empathy for others who have faced unexpected life-altering losses.

Later she joined an international organization and has worked in Liberia, Kenya, and South Africa – doing urban church planting, member care, hospitality, and discipleship. For the last 12 years she has enjoyed the privilege of encouraging teams and leaders in many different countries in both Asia and Africa. Besides her family, her favourite people are cross-cultural workers and their children. Discipleship, mentoring, coaching, and encouraging God’s workers are some of her delights in life. Investing in leaders today, so they can face the challenges of tomorrow, brings her joy.

Kenneth and Ellen have been living and working in SE Asia for the past 19 years. They are both trained forensic interviewers of children and have participated in numerous responses to the alleged harm of kids and vulnerable adults in the mission world. Anna Hampton explores the topic of danger and risk management in cross-cultural work.

ABOUT ANNA HAMPTON:

For the past fifteen years Anna Hampton and her husband Neal have served with Barnabas International in pastoral care and as risk specialists. They focus on serving those who work in the most dangerous places of the world.

Anna shares God’s Word interwoven with personal experiences from living and working for a decade in war-torn Afghanistan and from almost thirty years of global ministry experiences traveling in almost seventy countries.

She writes with realism and depth from her own trials of facing overwhelming obstacles with faith and joy while also living in extremist environments for almost two decades while raising three young children.

She is the author of Facing Danger: A Guide Through Risk (2nd Ed, WCP 2024), Facing Fear: The Journey to Mature Courage in Risk and Persecution (2023), and presently writing Facing Persecution: The Ethics and Spirituality of Loving Your Enemies. She contributed to the 2-day Risk Assessment and Management (RAM) Training that Neal wrote based on Facing Danger, which they have facilitated globally and has been translated into multiple languages.

Denise Beck is the executive director of Velvet Ashes. Shaped by her years in S. Sudan, Denise’s heart grew for women who take the unknown and carve out beauty in all its forms. When she was introduced to Velvet Ashes, she found a place that celebrated that beauty as well. Serving with Velvet Ashes she seeks to provide connection and courage for women in their cross-cultural lives and it has been another reminder of the beautiful gifts God gives.  Her favorite places to be are anywhere her 4 kids are, next to her husband no matter what country, and anywhere that gets her close to the feet of Jesus.

ABOUT BRET TAYLOR & SHERYL O’BRYAN:

Bret Taylor is the President of Interaction International and creator of the Adaptable TCK Model. He’s spent over 25 years serving Third Culture Kids, starting as a chaplain for MKs in Kenya and later leading the Youth and Family Ministry at JAARS. He chairs the MK Caregiver’s Summit and helps lead the International TCK Conference. Bret lives in North Carolina with his wife Mindy, has visited 33 countries, and swears by In-N-Out burgers.

Sheryl O'Bryan grew up in New York (state) and always wanted to be a TCK. Her parents were uncooperative in this venture. She graduated from Wheaton College with a double major of French and History (but not necessarily French history). In 2019 she completed her M.A. in human services counseling with a focus on life coaching from Liberty University.

Sheryl began working with TCKs in 1988 at the International Christian Academy in Cote d'Ivoire; A civil war forced her to evacuate in 2002. She then moved to her sending organization's home office and served as the TCK care and education specialist until 2018. Later that year, she joined Interaction International where she serves in a variety of capacities. Her favorite moments are always when she works directly with TCKs.

ABOUT JOSH & RISA HOBSON:

Josh and Risa Hobson are missionaries with TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission) who currently provide member care through Lado a Lado Ministries’ retreat center in Portugal, where they live with their family. Their mission is to walk alongside Christian workers with authenticity and compassion, providing a safe space with opportunities for rest, growth, care in community, and reconnection with God.

Josh worked as a chef for over 20 years, with the last 15 years as a culinary instructor at a cooking school. His passion for learning all sorts of different cuisines and dishes allow him to prepare a variety of food for our guests. He also has extensive experience in working with dietary needs and restrictions. Working for over 18 years in church plants, Josh also has experience leading groups and helping men with accountability. He is gifted in listening and debriefing.

Risa is a licensed professional counselor with over two decades of experience in church ministries, education, and counseling. She has specialized training in utilizing the Seeking Safety trauma recovery model, which includes support groups specifically developed for ministry workers. Risa grew up as a third culture kid and is super passionate both personally and professionally about helping workers and their families thrive in cross-cultural settings.
