The Inside Word With Graeme Watts & Zac Phillips

Listen Later

Nadia Horne is joined on #RSN927am Winners by Graeme Watts is co-owner of Smudge Bromac, the 11-year-old David Aiken trained entire who will have his 200th start on Sunday in the Central Goldfields Shire Maryborough Gold Cup.
Smudge is a favourite of the Aiken camp and Mr Watts. The syndicate will attend on the day and it will be a partly sombre affair, because one of the owners, John Brain, passed away only a fortnight ago owing to motor neurone disease. Mr Watts and Mr Brain were close friends and horse ownership, and in particularly Smudge Bromac, was a great shared connection, with John having introduced Graeme to trots ownership. Mr Watts sees Sundays as a celebration of Smudge Bromac and John, and is looking forward to his horse running his usual honest race.
And Zac Phillips is the young driver who got squeezed out of Gait Speed on Tuesday. He drove Chilli Palmer to victory last Friday night at Tabcorp Park Melton in the Arilla Lifestyle Pace, and will be on Chilli Palmer again this Sunday in the Central Goldfields Shire Maryborough Gold Cup. The Adam Kelly-trained swooper is drawn off the back row (9), but if he fires home like he did last start he has to be some hope.
Zac also drives Shark Alert (race 4 no.2) and Larissa Advice (race 7 no. 10) at Maryborough, and he has three drives at Tabcorp Park Melton on Friday night in Thebackpagescribe (race 1 no. 3), Outrageous El (race 5 no. 6) and Arty Missy (race 6 no 1). The latter is probably most interesting, given it's racing in the Group 3 feature and is having its first start for Adam Kelly after a long lay-off, having previously had success in Tassie.
