Welcome to our next episode of the INSPIRE Podcast! In this brand new episode, we take on a new game of “Research Roulette”. We asked all our followers to come up with a random word for us, and we had to come up with an interesting research article relating to this word. This roulette’s word was “Medieval”, and this sparked a great discussion on a range of topics from ancient remedies in medicine to fishing. Have a listen and leave us a review to let us know what you think!

We will be back every week talking about research in a language everyone can understand!
In this week's episode, we're joined by prominent epidemiologist Prof. Sunetra Gupta from Merton College, Oxford who specialises in the evolution of pathogens including parasites, bacteria and viruses and in modelling the spread of pathogens through populations. She is also heavily involved in the development of vaccines to control their spread. She has been an outspoken critic of the British government's approach to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, and is here to discuss the concept of pandemic disease in general as well as lessons we have learnt from COVID and how we can improve our response to pathogenic outbreaks in future.
Prof. Gupta is currently fostering a collaborative effort to gain insights into the collateral effects of COVID-19 control measures globally and gathering ideas for how we can better approach pandemics in future. Her website can be found at https://collateralglobal.org where she encourages anyone who wants to contribute to do so!
Please let us know your thoughts on this hot topic and leave us a review so we know what you want to hear about in future!
On this episode, we are joined by James Carlyle - a final year veterinary student at Bristol University with an intercalated Masters in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation.
