Blitz had the opportunity to catch up with Gold Coast author Shane Kang before July 4 release of his debut novella, Riptide Baby. His underground following is likely to emerge from the shadows - the hotly anticipated novella is the first result that comes up you Google "Riptide Baby". That's right, it's had more recent hits than Vance Joy's song of the same name (which has 112 million views!)
The young writer spoke to us about his late mother, his militant feminism and all the other sorts of things you'd expect growing up in the Gold Coast.
Kang has spent time writing in Los Angeles for Thought Catalog, but now writes short stories for Your Friend's House. You can check out some of his stuff here: http://yourfriendshouse.com/author/shane-kang/
