The Ballantynes are Vancouver’s very own garage-soul revivalist project. The band describes what they do as “organ wailing, hip shaking, tambourine shimmering, trouble.” But I’ll try to give you some idea what this seven member army has going on onstage: they have two drummers, at least three vocalists, two guitarists and an organ. This gives Ballantynes shows a wild, throw anything-at-the-wall-to-see-what-sticks energy you can’t get anywhere else.

I chatted with Ballantynes members Jarrod, Corey and Vanessa just before a show. They were quite happy to talk about their crazy band in between puffs of their cigarettes.
