Many are unaware of this, but Canada did contribute to the original wave of punk bands in the late 70s and early 80s. Those bands were mostly forgotten for decades, until author Liz Worth re-discovered those early Canuck punk acts, like The Diodes. She decided to track down as many of those bands as she could find, and write a book about their recollections of the scene. The result is Treat Me Like Dirt: An Oral History Of Punk In Toronto and Beyond.
The book has done the unthinkable and sold out two printings, which is unheard of in the Canadian press, let alone for a book about bands everyone seems to have forgotten about. TMLD has also helped reignite interest in those original punk bands. As a result, the Diodes are back together and performing again.
This week, I chat with author Liz Worth and then interrupt The Diodes frontman Paul Robinson‘s dinner for a few questions!
