Parables served a dual purpose. They revealed deeper spiritual meanings to those open to understanding, particularly his disciples, while simultaneously concealing these truths from those who were not receptive. 

Jesus explained that this approach fulfilled Old Testament prophecies, indicating that some would hear but not comprehend. This selective revelation was intended to challenge listeners to seek deeper understanding.
